  • WHAT
    • Lalique spent a huge amount of time handmaking and crafting extremely beautiful and rare pieces which were very desirable.
    • Lalique did an apprenticeship with Parisian jeweler Louis Aucoc, where he learned traditional jewelry techniques at a young age.
    • He went on to design diamond creations for Cartier, before marrying the daughter of a famous sculptor.
    • Inspires by his father in law, he began experimenting with sculptural techniques and had carving elements in his jewelry.
  • WHERE
    • All of his designs were made by hand using traditional metal smithing techniques such as soldering, enameling and stone setting, as well as the beautiful carving associated with Lost Wax casting.
  • WHY
    • Art Nouveau was a reaction against the mass produced and affordable objects that so many people filled their houses with during Victorian times.
    • Art Nouveau designers wanted to restore the status of metal smithing and other forms of hand.
