  • Three main types of employment agencies:
    1. Public agencies operated by federal, state, or local governments.
    2. Agencies associated with nonprofit organizations.
    3. Privately owned agencies.
  • Private employment agencies are important sources of clerical, white-collar, and managerial personnel.
  • Recruitment Process Outsourcers
    • Are special vendors that handle all or most of an employer’s recruiting needs.
    • They usually sign short-term contracts with the employer, and receive a monthly fee that varies to the demands to the company.
  • Employers increasingly supplement their permanent workforces by hiring contingent or temporary workers
    • Known as part-time or just-in-time workers.
  • The Temp Agency - Same salary as employees but classifies them separately, as casual, seasonal, or temporary employees, and often pays few if any benefits.
  • Outsourcing - means having outside vendors supply services
  • Offshoring - means having outside vendors or employees abroad supply services that the company’s own employees previously did in-house
  • Offshoring and Outsourcing Cons:
    1. cultural misunderstandings
    2. information privacy concerns;
    3. the need to deal with foreign contract, liability, and legal systems issues;
    4. and the fact that the offshore employees need special training
  • Executive Recruiters
    • Known as headhunters
    • The issue is ensuring that the recruiter really understands your needs.
