• Cognitive Practical Investigation: Aim: To find out if acoustic similarity has an effect on STM.
• Cognitive Practical Investigation: Conclusion: In conclusion, whilst not largely significant the STM is slightly affected by acoustic similarity.
• Cognitive Practical Investigation: Results: Mean average score for acoustically similar: 5.9
• Cognitive Practical Investigation: Results: Mean average score for acoustically dissimilar: 6.6
• Cognitive Practical Investigation: Results: The Mann Whitney-U was conducted and found to be not significant. Observed value- 38.5 and Critical value- 27
• Cognitive Practical Investigation: Sample: Opportunity sampling. 10 male and 10 female (20 participants), 5 of each gender in each group.

  Two groups:

  1. Acoustically similar
  2. Acoustically dissimilar.
• Cognitive Practical Investigation: Method: Given a list of 10 words. Each participant was given 30 seconds to memorize as many words as possible from the list. The list was then removed, and the participant was given 1 minute to write down as many words that they could remember from the list.
