  • Matter- anything that has mass and occupies space.
  • Elasticity- The ability of a material to return to its original shape after being stretched or compressed.
  • Strength-this refers to the ability of a material to support heavy objects without breaking or tearing eg. Steel and concrete
  • Hardness-this is the ability of an object to withstand wear or scratches
  • Solubility- the ability of a substance to dissolve in a solvent.
  • Solids have a definite shape and volume. They cannot be deformed easily
  • Liquid- they take up the shape of their container but still retain their own volume. They can flow and are compressible
  • Gas- they do not have any fixed shape or volume, they fill the entire container and expand when heated
  • Solid to gas - sublimation
  • Gas to Solid- deposition
  • Gas to Liquid- Sublimation
  • Liquid to Gas- boiling
  • Liquid to solid- freezing
  • Solid to Liquid- melting
