  Effects on female: development and maturation of follicle -> follicle produces oestrogen.

  Effects on male: development and maturation of spermatogonia -> through spermatogenesis
• Luteinising hormone (LH) - produced by both genders


  Origin: pituitary gland

  Target organ: ovary and testes —> leydig cells

  Effects on female: maturation of the follicle and initiates ovulation.

  Effects on male: stimulates leydig cells to produce and release testosterone.
