• Stella and Blanche are in the house talking while upstairs the Hubbels are fighting.
• Blanche is worried about rumours that may have spread about and promises to leave soon
• she become hysterical and defends her past actions that are left obscure
• After Stella leaves for the four deuces, Blanche flirts with a young man who comes to the house and kisses him goodbye.
